On September 7, at approximately 3:30 am, a resident contacted Gatineau police after witnessing an individual who appeared to be cutting or removing parts from a vehicle. The suspect was described as wearing black, and appeared to be using tools under the vehicle, then putting the stolen parts in the box of their truck.
Once at the scene, on rue de la Mouture, police met with the concerned citizen and conducted a sweep of the area. Police then located the truck. A suspect, a 21-year-old woman from Gatineau, was inside and subsequently arrested. During the woman’s arrest, a 23-year-old man presented himself to the police and claimed to be the owner of the truck. He was also arrested.
Both suspects were transported to the police station to meet with investigators. The man was released on a promise to appear. Charges of thief, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and failure to comply with probation will be submitted to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions.
The female suspect was released after meeting with investigators and may face charges of theft.
The suspect’s truck was put in storage, as the license plate of the vehicle had been reported stolen. In total, the two individuals allegedly stole catalytic converters from three Mitsubishi RVRs. The converters control exhaust emissions, filtering out harmful byproducts.
