Speed limit changes in Gatineau: is your street one of them?
Sonia Roy
The City of Gatineau is currently lowering certain speed limits on its territory and recently adopted by-law number 303-10-2022 for this purpose. This by-law amends by-law 303-2007, which concerns the speed limits to be adopted in the many sectors of the city. In addition to adjustments to include newer streets and lowering the limits to address speeding on certain arteries, the new bylaw is in keeping with the powers that Quebec municipalities have under the Quebec Highway Safety Code and the provisions of the Municipal Powers Act.
Aylmer Sector
Most of the speed limit changes in the new by-law affect the Aylmer sector. Several streets and roads now have a 60 km/h limit:
● Aylmer Road, between Foley Street and a point 100 metres west of Saint-Raymond Boulevard (formerly 70 km/h)
● Cook Road (east of Vanier Road)
● McConnell Road, between Samuel-Edey Street and Vanier Road (formerly 70 km/h)
● Lucerne Boulevard, between a point 150 metres east of Vanier Road and Samuel de Champlain Drive (formerly 70 km/h)
● Klock Road, between Antoine-Boucher Road and a point 600 metres south of Baillie Road
● Perry Road, from a point 830 metres north of Pink Road to Baillie Road
● Vanier Road, north of Cook Road and from a point 100 metres north of Boulevard du Plateau to Pink Road
Hull Sector
The speed limit on Wright Street (between Hanson Street and Taylor Street) is now 30 km/h.
Gatineau sector
The speed limit is newly set at 60 km/h on Maloney Boulevard East, from a point 75 metres west of Des Sables Street to a point 19 metres east of du Vieux-Port Street. On Chemin de Bellechasse, from a point 125 metres east of Rue de Lotbinière to Montée Paiement, the speed limit (formerly 80 km/h) is lowered to 70 km/h.
Buckingham and Masson-Angers sectors
The speed limit on Linda Road, near Pagé Road and not far from Highway 48, has been lowered from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.
