Gatineau police report that the shots were fired at a residence on December 6 in the Hull-wright district in Gatineau. Police believe that the shooters may have targeted the home that is no longer associated with the people they were trying to target.
A family with young children had been living at the home at 94 Saint-Hyacinthe Street for several months. Although several bullets entered the home, there were no injuries, and the family was relocated for their safety.
The residents of the home were not known to the police. However, the previous tenants, two men that were brothers in their forties and fifties, were known to authorities. The two men were the target of gunfire on November 27.
The November 27 incidents took place on Eddy Street in Hull around 4:45 pm. Projectiles were fired at a vehicle, with the two men inside. A major police operation led to the arrest of Domenic James Edward Fortune. He was located by police in a vehicle on Leduc Street.
The next day Fortune faced charges of the attempted murder of Yan Beauregard, recklessly discharging a firearm, pointing a firearm and extortion. He is currently in prison but was not known to police before the incident.
The Gatineau police state they have reason to believe that the shots fired at 94 rue Saint-Hyacinthe are linked to the November 27 incident.
“The Gatineau Police Department would like to send a very clear message to those involved in these two events: we will spare no effort to bring to justice the criminals directly or indirectly involved in these events. We collaborate with all relevant regional and provincial partners. Both events endangered children, citizens with no history who have nothing to do with the criminal world. During last week's attempted murder, for which a man is behind bars, a mother and her children were walking on the street nearby. This time, it was a family who was put in danger in their home,” said Patrick Kenney, spokesperson for the Gatineau police. “Expect the Police Department to be very visible and present in the area.”
The police investigation is ongoing. Gatineau police ask anyone with information to contact them through their INFO line, 819-243-4636, option 5.
