Man arrested in Gatineau for child sexual abuse imagery offenses

A 54-year-old man from Gatineau was arrested on charges of possessing  and distributing child sexual abuse material, according to the National Centre Against Child Exploitation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The arrest, made on April 19, involved collaboration with the Gatineau Police.

The operation included the execution of a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where officers seized multiple pieces of computer equipment for detailed forensic analysis. Facing charges under section 163.1(3) for distribution and section 163.1(4) for possession, as stipulated by the Criminal Code of Canada, the suspect was conditionally released after appearing in court on the same day.

Authorities offered no further response to inquiries regarding additional details, such as the identity of the arrested individual or further comments on the case.

The RCMP encourages anyone who believes they have been a victim of a sexual offense to report it to local police services. For cases of online child sexual exploitation, victims can reach out to their local police or cybertip.ca.
