Maloney Boulevard rehabilitation: roadwork could last until the fall

Road users will have to be patient when driving in the Gatineau sector for the next few months: the rehabilitation of Maloney Boulevard, the main artery in the east end of the city, is in addition to the many other (re)construction projects underway. Work on Maloney Boulevard East, which was scheduled to begin the week of August 22, 2022, could extend into the fall of 2022 and even the spring of 2023, depending on the condition of the work as winter arrives. A section of approximately 1.6 kilometers between Avenue du Cheval-Blanc and the Blanche River will be affected by obstructions and lane closures during this period. Motorists will be required to alternate on the single lane that will cross the work zone (400 metres distance). Sections of the boulevard near the construction area may also have their usual number of lanes reduced, with only one lane open in each direction (900 metres distance). These restrictions may be moved between Cheval-Blanc Avenue and Blanche River depending on the status of the work. Flagmen and flagwomen will be on site during the obstructions to facilitate travel on the affected section of the boulevard. The City of Gatineau's press release mentions that the rehabilitation of Maloney Boulevard East will improve several aspects of the road, such as "the reconstruction of the pavement, the construction of a new multi-functional pathway to promote road sharing, the correction of surface drainage, the construction of a two-way pathway to the north of the roadway the addition of traffic lights at the intersections with de Laverdière and Vieux-Port streets, the replacement of traffic lights at the intersection with de Pélissier Street, the reconstruction of the roadway and the installation of asphalt, as well as the marking of the roadway and the installation of traffic signs”.
Gatineau City officials advise residents that access to homes and businesses in the area affected by the work will be maintained. Citizens are also encouraged to plan their routes in advance and to respect the signs in effect in and around the work area. In the east end of the city, other roadwork is underway, including Main Street and several of its intersections, de la Cité Boulevard, du Carrefour Boulevard and Labrosse Boulevard.
