The City of Gatineau announced the opening of the second submission period for its 2024 financial support program aimed at professional artists. This initiative, designed to foster creativity and enhance the cultural fabric of the region, invites artists to submit their applications by August 31, 2024, at 4 pm. This effort is part of the city's ongoing commitment to promoting visual arts and crafts.
The program specifically aims to support artistic creation and retain artists within Gatineau by improving their working conditions. It also seeks to encourage the development of artist studios in the downtown area and across various sectors of the city. For 2024, a maximum annual fund of $50,000 has been allocated to support this initiative.
During this special submission period, professional visual artists and craft artists who have occupied an artist studio in Gatineau between January 1 and July 31, 2024, are eligible for financial assistance. This aid is provided in the form of a reimbursement to help cover part of the occupancy costs incurred by the artists for their creative spaces. Eligible artists may receive financial support up to a maximum of $4,000.
To qualify for this reimbursement, artists must have occupied an artist studio, either as tenants or owners, in a non-residential building located within the eligible zones of the program, at any time during the specified period. Additionally, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and meet the professional criteria for visual or craft artists as defined by the program.
Details regarding eligibility criteria, the financial aid allocation process, and the application submission guidelines are available in the program documents provided by the city. Applications must be submitted via the WeTransfer platform to the email address ateliers@gatineau.ca, with the subject line "Atelier" by the deadline.
"Reflecting Gatineau's unwavering commitment to its professional artists, this financial support program provides essential resources to foster creativity and innovation. By enriching the cultural landscape of our city, we also strengthen our collective identity and artistic heritage," said Isabelle N. Miron, Municipal Councillor for the Orée-du-Parc district and Chair of the Commission on Arts, Culture, Letters, and Heritage.
