The Youth Secretariat of Quebec has officially launched the call for projects for the 2024-2025 Municipal Youth Strategies Program, a key initiative aimed at empowering municipal organisations to support youth engagement and development. The program is a critical component of the broader Quebec Youth Policy 2030, which seeks to enhance the capacity and autonomy of municipalities in addressing the needs of young people aged 15 to 29.
Municipal organisations, including regional county municipalities (RCMs), cities, boroughs with populations over 2,000, as well as agglomerations and municipalities outside RCMs, are eligible to submit proposals. In addition, public organisations, cooperatives, non-profits, and social economy enterprises may also apply, provided they partner with a municipal organisation. Successful applicants can receive up to $50,000 in funding, to be disbursed over two years, with submissions due by October 11, 2024.
The Municipal Youth Strategies Program is designed with two main components. The first focuses on fostering local youth development through projects that include youth consultation, the creation of a local youth action plan, or the establishment of a youth advisory committee. The second component supports the implementation of a previously developed local youth action plan or a youth consultation, aiming to ensure these initiatives have lasting, impactful outcomes.
A key goal of the program is to bolster the integration of young people into the fabric of municipal growth and decision-making processes. By promoting collaboration among local organisations and encouraging projects that are complementary to existing initiatives, the program seeks to generate cohesive and sustainable actions that benefit the youth population.
Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate a strong ability to mobilise youth, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, and integrate them into every stage of the project. Additionally, projects that align with existing local strategies, engage in community partnerships, and have not previously received financial support from the program will be considered favourably.
