Kruger Energy, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, took a giant leap forward in pioneering eco-friendly logistics with the deployment of its first all-electric trucks this year. The two 100% electric semi-trailer trucks have been set in motion, carrying Cashmere, SpongeTowels, and Bonterra tissue products between two Kruger Products facilities in Quebec, marking a significant milestone for both the company and the Canadian tissue industry.
By embracing transport electrification, Kruger Energy is further aligning its mission to develop renewable energy solutions that benefit the environment and local communities. The data gathered from the electric truck batteries will also bolster the company's expertise in energy storage, a critical aspect of renewable energy production. Looking ahead, Kruger Energy has plans to expand its fleet of alternatively fueled vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
Replacing a standard diesel truck with these all-electric class 8 vehicles will result in a substantial reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, amounting to 380 tons of CO2 annually, which is equivalent to taking approximately 90 passenger cars off the roads. Moreover, the move will eliminate the consumption of 150,000 liters of fossil fuels each year. Operating 20 hours a day, seven days a week, and travelling more than 1,000 km between the two facilities daily or 365,000 km each year, these zero-emission trucks will also contribute to improving air quality and reducing noise pollution due to their quiet all-electric powertrain.
Dino Bianco, CEO of Kruger Products, expressed his enthusiasm for the company's sustainability strategy, Reimagine 2030, and its mission to discover viable sustainable solutions for reducing the environmental footprint while continuing to grow as a business. As a leading tissue manufacturer in Canada, Kruger Products takes on the responsibility of offering consumers and customers high-quality products while being mindful of protecting the environment.
Kruger's vision for greener transportation extends beyond its own operations. The acquisition of its own charging stations sets the company apart from others and positions it to gather valuable information about the vehicles' performance. With this data at hand, Kruger Energy plans to offer fleet electrification services to other companies seeking to enhance the sustainability of their supply chains.
Looking ahead, Kruger has ambitious plans to electrify a significant portion of its fleet in the upcoming years. With an order for 50 additional electric trucks, the company aims to have 15 to 20 of them hitting the road within the next 24 months, further solidifying its position as a trailblazer in the adoption of eco-friendly transportation solutions.
