Investing in youth: two Outaouais athletes awarded $6,000 each

As part of their 2023 Scholarship Program, the Aléo Foundation teamed up with the National Bank to award a sum of $130,000 to 37 athletes in Quebec. Celebrating the 31st edition of their Scholarship Program, the Aléo Foundation proudly awarded $130,000 to 37 Quebec student-athletes in collaboration with the National Bank. Out of the sum, the select few will each receive individual scholarships. Two of the chosen athletes are from the Outaouais region—one studying in Gatineau and the other in Aylmer.
2021-22 Pan American Junior Champion, Noémie Beaulieu, 19, received a $4,000 scholarship. Located in Aylmer, Gatineau the triathlete is currently studying natural sciences in a distance-education CEGEP. Equipped with a lengthy resume, Beaulieu was also fourth in the junior category at the World Sprint and Relay Championships in June 2022. Attracted by management and science, she is now looking to pursue industrial engineering at Laval University with her award.
Four-time gold medallist at the February 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, biathlon athlete, Jean-Nicolas de Broeck was awarded $2,000. Just 17 years old, the Gatineau resident was 10th in the 10 kilometer pursuit at the World Youth Championships in March 2023. Currently a student at the Outaouais CEGEP studying natural sciences, he’s considering pursuing finance as a future field of study.
The Aléo Foundation, formally known as the Athlete Excellence Foundation gathered the 2023 cohort in a ceremony at the National Bank’s headquarters to celebrate recipients “for their outstanding achievements and their commitment to their studies and their sport.”
The event which was a unique chance for athletes to come together was also an opportunity for Aléo to present their program for the first time since their name change. Throughout the process of changing their look, Aléo’s mantra has remained: “new name, new image, same mission!” Naming National Bank as a loyal partner.
“The National Bank has played a fundamental role, over the years, through its support in the realization of the Foundation’s mission,” said Martin Lavigne, Aléo Foundation president in a press release. “Its unwavering support over the past thirty years has made it possible to support hundreds of promising athletes while building the reputation and credibility of the Foundation. We are very grateful for this commitment and are very proud to offer the title of “Partner Builder” to the National Bank.”
Closing off a successful 31st edition, the Aléo Foundation plans to continue investing in young Quebec athletes and students like Noémie and Jean-Nicolas in the years to come.
