Highway 50 renamed in honour of Guy Lafleur

A year after the death of legendary number 10 hockey player Guy Lafleur, the impacts of his career in the community still echo.
On May 4, Quebec Premier François Legault proudly announced highway 50 will be renamed highway Guy-Lafleur to honour the late Montreal Canadiens player.
Lafleur who passed at 70 from lung cancer in April 2022 was a hockey legend, winning five Stanley Cups throughout his career.
The east-west route provincial highway passes through his hometown of Thurso in western-Quebec where the inauguration took place.
Alongside Legault, Thurso mayor Benoît Lauzon, minister for the Outaouais region Mathieu Lacombe and Lafleur’s family all shared a few words about the hockey great’s legacy.
