The Government of Canada is taking proactive steps to elevate the well-being of the country's senior citizens. Minister of Labour and Seniors, Seamus O'Regan Jr., announced on October 12 a multi-year funding initiative focused on bolstering the social integration of seniors throughout Canada.
Under the 2023-2024 "New Horizons for Seniors Program" (NHSP) pan-Canadian funding call, qualified organizations stand a chance to secure up to $5 million over a five-year span. The NHSP, a federal initiative, is designed to finance projects that profoundly impact the lives of senior Canadians.
O'Regan Jr. underscored the importance of these projects, stating, "When seniors are more connected, engaged, and active in their communities, it benefits everyone. We aim to endorse organizations that foster inclusive communities and equip seniors to age on their terms."
Organizations are encouraged to apply for projects that adopt inventive, cooperative methods to bolster community capability and uplift socially vulnerable seniors. The deadline for the call for applications is slated for November 15. To gather more information on the NHSP and to follow the application process, organizations can visit the official New Horizons for Seniors Program website at https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/new-horizons-seniors-pan-canadian/.
