In an innovative move to tackle the current labor shortage and stand out in a competitive job market, the City of Gatineau has unveiled its new employer brand. This campaign, festively, sportively, and colorfully launched, seeks to attract, recruit, and retain the best talents. Gatineau, known for its vibrant work culture and challenging opportunities, positions itself as an employer of choice in the region.
With its 4,000-strong workforce, Gatineau is particularly bolstering its Public Works Department, which boasts nearly 800 dedicated blue-collar employees. The city is currently on the lookout for fresh talent to fill various roles, including two electrician positions, several temporary mechanic-welder roles, and numerous general laborer positions, along with upcoming permanent opportunities.
"The campaign is not just about a logo or a catchy slogan," said Gatineau Mayor France Bélisle. "It's the embodiment of our identity as a service-oriented organization, dedicated to the citizens' needs. We're inviting everyone to join and shine with our team."
A notable aspect of the campaign is the focus on general laborer roles, particularly for the city's seasonal operations like winter snow removal and various summer tasks. This winter, over 270 employees will operate more than 150 pieces of equipment for snow removal. Gatineau is actively seeking individuals with a Class 3F driving license, although all interested parties are encouraged to apply. The city is willing to support suitable candidates in obtaining the necessary licenses.
"Our employees are always out there for the citizens," said Simon Rousseau, General Manager of Gatineau. "From blue-collar workers clearing snow in winter, to our police and firefighters ensuring safety, and office staff passionately working on citizen-focused projects. We are challenging everyone – friends, family, even your grandmother – to apply and help make Gatineau shine."
A 2023 survey of municipal employees helped highlight what motivates them and sets Gatineau apart as an employer: the pride in serving citizens and the community, a sense of dynamism, teamwork, and engaging in stimulating challenges.
