As the holiday season approaches, Gatineau and neighbouring towns are gearing up for a festive celebration like no other. Starting from December 1, the areas will transform into a winter wonderland, complete with a series of events and markets designed to spread Christmas cheer among residents and visitors alike.
The festivities commence with a weekend of enchantment organized by the Recreation Department in Chelsea. Scheduled for December 1, 2, and 3, this event will see Santa and his guests bring magic and joy to the area. One of the main attractions of this weekend is the Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, promising to be a dazzling display of lights and decorations. In addition, the Illuminated Christmas Parade is set to captivate audiences with its festive floats and vibrant atmosphere. For those who love winter sports, the opportunity to ice skate with Santa and his friends will be a unique and memorable experience.
Another highlight of the season is the Angels Share Benefit Concert. This event is anticipated to bring together music lovers for a night of splendid performances, all in the spirit of the holiday season. Concurrently, the Christmas Market at La Fab sur Mill, taking place on December 3, is an excellent opportunity for holiday shopping. Over 30 booths hosted by local artisans and exhibitors will offer a variety of unique products, perfect for gift-giving. To add to the festive atmosphere, street trucks will be on-site, serving a range of delicious foods, from snack bar-style treats at Chez Wally to homemade pizzas from Ferme Thuya and Mexican food from Café Lilly Bean.
The Aléo Christmas Market 2023 at the Galeries de Hull, happening on December 2, 3, 9, and 10, will further elevate the holiday spirit in Gatineau. This market is expected to host a wide array of vendors, offering a unique blend of products and crafts ideal for the season. For those who prefer a more community-centred experience, the 4th annual Bristol Christmas Market at the Jack Graham Community Centre will not disappoint. Scheduled for December 9, it will feature 30 unique vendors, live music, handmade decor, and opportunities to take photos with Santa.
The Wakefield Christmas Market, scheduled for December 9 at The Wakefield Centre, brings an old-fashioned, European-style Christmas market to the village of Wakefield. This market will offer a delightful selection of artisanal crafts and holiday gifts. In addition, Gatineau's Notre-Dame Market and the boutique Le Local, in collaboration with Chère Simone, are presenting their first edition of the Christmas Market on December 2. This market will showcase a wide range of local talent and festive shopping options.
An intriguing addition to this year's festivities is the "Magical Christmas on the Farm" event at Herbalism La Fée Des Bois Apothecary. Throughout December weekends, visitors can engage in special activities like picking wild and eco-friendly fir trees and enjoying hot herbal teas.
