Gastronomy on four wheels: food trucks return to Gatineau for the summer of 2022
Sonia Roy
The summer season is well underway and the street food trucks are back in Gatineau for the entire year, until March 31, 2023. Following Gatineau's annual call for applications, seven food trucks are currently operating on Gatineau territory. Citizens can enjoy food and refreshments all year long from the following vehicles: Le Vilain Camion, from Les Vilains Garçons, Za-za, la délicieuse remorque, from Piz'za-za restaurant, Olivia's bistro-boutique truck, the BBQ Shop truck, Les Brûlés artisans fumeurs, Juliano's Gelato and Chez Wally’s. These mobile culinary businesses can operate at 17 City-designated locations. Licensed street food trucks were selected based on their application and criteria, including their menu and culinary contribution, the skills and experience of the applicant business, the configuration and layout of the operating vehicle, and the eco-friendly measures adopted. The list of locations from which street food trucks can offer their services includes, but is not limited to, the municipal parking lot at Lac Leamy, Hôtel-de-Ville Street in the Hull-Wright district, Moussette Park, Sanscartier Park, Lac Beauchamp, Principale Street and Park des cedres in Aylmer. The complete list of authorized sites can be found on the city website.
It should be noted that restaurant owners who wish to operate a street food truck must have an authorization provided by the Ville de Gatineau. Bylaw number 857-2021, adopted in March 2021 by the City, authorizes street food on the territory through an annual call for applications. This bylaw does not apply to commercial promotions, events, demonstrations or celebrations duly authorized by the Ville de Gatineau, nor does it apply to mobile canteens, food donation trucks and mobile public market trucks.
The exact location and future location of the various street food trucks in Gatineau can be found by visiting the city website.
