Councillor: Denis Girouard
Lac-Beauchamp District (16)
A few words about his mandate so far:
Like many of his colleagues on the municipal council, 2022 will likely be remembered as a learning year for Denis Girouard, councillor for the Lac-Beauchamp district, one of the largest in the City of Gatineau. In particular, the Notre-Dame Street repair work required the attention of the man who is also president of the Seniors' Commission of the City of Gatineau. "It's going well, the project has started, the work is going quickly and is well done. The citizens are happy. There are still a few small hitches pertaining to the parking spaces [...] but overall, things are going well,” he noted.
At Lac Beauchamp, a veritable oasis in the middle of the city, "there are a lot of big projects we're working on right now," explained Denis Girouard. The lake in question, whose survival has long been in doubt, is doing better and the process of reoxygenating the lake is underway. "It will be viable and safer for people. There are many young people who come to Lac Beauchamp in the summer to go hiking, to the beach, to the children's parks, to the trails in the forest [...] and even in the winter for the sliding sites, skating, cross-country skiing [...], it's really a family area, it's one of the most beautiful areas,” added the councillor.
A few words on the important issues in 2023:
In addition to working on the return of the Merveilles des sables festival, for which an organization willing to get involved is needed, the Lac-Beauchamp councillor wishes to make his district known throughout the region, with more visibility for the activities of the district. Denis Girouard also had a few words to say about the Notre-Dame Urban Greenhouse project, a citizen initiative that he has always supported. Although the private project was put on hold in 2022, the councillor is hopeful that it will come back to life in 2023: "We [at the City] certainly want this project to work. It will create jobs, a lot of interest in Lac Beauchamp and the Notre-Dame Street and Old Gatineau sectors. There is a need for love in this area!” the councillor noted. "What I've learned lately is that there may be another project underway to perhaps present a new approach."
Finally, Denis Girouard offered his recommendations of places not to be missed in the Lac-Beauchamp district: "The Notre-Dame market [...] which is brand new, the Propulsion stage where emerging artists [perform] and where people can come, the Sanscartier Park and the boat launch [in the same place] where we are going to set up sites this summer so that people can go and sit down, look at the lake, watch the boats go down - in short, to create a place of respite.”
