Councillor: Alicia Lacasse-Brunet
Bellevue District (15)
A few words on how her term has gone so far:
"It's been good, I think everyone has had time to get back to full strength since the pandemic and then come back stronger, like the Bellevue North Residents Association, which has really picked up.", notes Alicia Lacasse-Brunet. For the councillor, the feeling of belonging in the Bellevue district remains a point to be worked on, but for which there has been a lot of progress in 2022: "The Bellevue-North [residents'] association is doing a great deal of work in this area so that people can recognise themselves in their district". "There is currently an association being created for the southern part of the district," she adds.
Alicia Lacasse-Brunet, who is also president of the City of Gatineau's Agricultural Advisory Committee, notes that her collaboration in the Notre-Dame Urban Greenhouse project remains unchanged. Although this project is private and currently blocked by a citizen referendum, the councillor has been very involved in communications with the residents of the area. This involvement is explained by the proximity of the Bellevue district and the Lac-Beauchamp district, the latter offering local shops close to the councillor's district: "The merchants on Main [Street] and Notre-Dame [Street] [...] mean that we don't have to go very far into Gatineau or even Hull to be able to shop, and continue to be able to encourage our local businesses within reach, practically within walking distance," she explained. The reopening of Boulevard Labrosse was also highlighted by the councillor, who was aware that this news was highly anticipated by the residents of the Bellevue district.
A few words on important issues in 2023:
In addition to working on organizing future citizen meetings with the residents of her district, Alicia Lacasse-Brunet mentions that a community site will soon open in the south of the district: it is a new skatepark, which will be located in Joseph-H.-Maloney Park, behind École de l'Escalade. "It's almost ready, we are currently finalising the envelopes that we might be able to touch to complete what is around the track," she explained. "There will be a partnership with Skatepark Gatineau to offer animation, a service chalet, and other things," added the Bellevue district councillor, who is hopeful of obtaining additional funding for this important youth gathering point.
Alicia Lacasse-Brunet also plans to continue her support in the creation of the residents' association for the southern part of the Bellevue district, until the group becomes independent. Finally, thinking of her fellow citizens, the Councillor for district 15 concludes: "It is a privileged seat that I have, to be able to be their municipal representative, and I want to be able to continue to have this link and not just see each other during the door-to-door and elections periods!”
