Blue wave in the Outaouais: Caquist candidates elected and re-elected in the wake of the provincial election

The results of the 2022 Quebec provincial election are now in and, like the new National Assembly, the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) MNAs were elected in majority in the Outaouais region. In the municipality of Papineau, Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Family and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, was re-elected for a second term under the CAQ wing, with a total of 19,791 votes (52.83%). Marie-Claude Latourelle, for Québec Solidaire (QS), and Marc Carrière, for the Conservative Party of Québec (PCQ), competed for the second place with a few hundred votes difference (the candidates obtained 13.78% and 13.27% of the votes respectively). In the municipality of Chapleau, a second mandate is now official for Mathieu Lévesque of the CAQ, who obtained 16,363 votes (52.30%). The Quebec Liberal Party and Québec Solidaire finished second and third in this riding, with 4259 votes (13.61%) for Assumpta Ndengeyingoma, the Liberal candidate, and 4129 votes (13.20%) for Sabrina Labrecque-Boivin, the Solidaire candidate. In the Gatineau riding, Robert Bussière of the CAQ won the election with 17,055 votes (46.74%), followed by Caryl Green (PLQ) with 7,137 votes (19.56%) and Laura Avalos (QS) with 4,415 votes (12.10%). The big win for the Coalition Avenir Québec in the region was certainly the election of Suzanne Tremblay in the riding of Hull, where a battle was waged between the CAQ candidate and the outgoing Liberal MNA, Maryse Gaudreault, who had won every election held in her municipality since 2008. In the end, Suzanne Tremblay was elected with 11,060 votes (34.64%), against 8,276 votes (25.92%) for the Quebec Liberal Party. Not far behind, Mathieu Perron-Dufour, of Québec Solidaire, finished third, with 6623 votes (20.75%). This CAQ victory tinted the Outaouais blue on the official electoral maps, on which Pontiac remains the only Liberal riding (red) in the region with the re-election of André Fortin, in office since 2014.
