The Ironman Canada Triathlon, set to take place in 2025, will see athletes traverse both Ottawa and Gatineau, highlighting the collaborative spirit and shared beauty of these neighbouring cities. The event is part of the VinFast Ironman North America Series and will feature qualifying slots for the 2026 VinFast Ironman World Championship.
The triathlon is scheduled to begin at Ottawa's Britannia Beach with a challenging 3.8-kilometre two-loop swim in the Ottawa River. Following the swim, athletes will embark on a 180-km bike ride that will run through notable roads and paths, including the Kichi Zibi Mikan, Queen Elizabeth Driveway, Laurier Avenue, Nicholas Street, Sussex Drive, and the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway. This route will also extend into Gatineau, utilizing its well-maintained bike paths, and highlighting the city's readiness to host international sporting events.
For participants and spectators, routes will be closed to regular traffic to ensure the safety and success of the event. Local businesses are preparing for the influx of visitors, and the cities are working together to handle logistics and security efficiently.
General registration for the triathlon will open on April 22, available through the Ironman website: https://www.ironman.com/im-canada-ottawa. Athletes from around the world are expected to compete for a chance to qualify for the Ironman World Championship, making this event a notable addition to the international athletic calendar.
